Samsung Galaxy C5 – Second Samsung phone with the highest RAM

Samsung phones are loved in India because of their build quality, durability, and availability of service centres. Samsung launches the phones according to the series. There are many series like J series,A series, Note series, S series. They have launched a new series called C series. C series has two phones till now- C7 and C5. Samsung Galaxy C7 is slightly larger than C5. Both these phones are budget-friendly with impressive specifications.

Design and Display

Galaxy C5 comes in a metallic design with stylish appearance and comfortable hand grip. It comes with a nice matte finish that is smudge resistant. Galaxy C5 looks like an improved version of Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) with hardware improvements. Galaxy C5 has a slim metal body with a screen size of 5.2 inches.It features a full high definition display of 1080×1920 pixels and weighs 143 grams. It measures 145.90×72.00×6.70 (height x width x thickness). As you can see, it is very slimphonewith a thickness of 6.70 mm.Samsung’s SUPER AMOLED is also present and is protected by 2.5D scratch-resistant glass.

Samsung Galaxy C5 has a typical Samsung appearance on the front.Below the display lies the physical home button, which acts as a fingerprint scanner. Similarly, it has capacitive keys on either side, with back key on right side and menu key on the left. These are backlit and otherwise invisible.

Above the display, there is the Samsung logo below the earpiece. There is 8 MP front camera next to it. The sides are pretty conventional to the Samsung phones, with power key and SIM tray on the right, volume buttons on the left. It is a dual SIM phone, but with a hybrid slot, which means you cannot use dual SIM and microSD card altogether, you have to choose between second SIM and card.

At the bottom, lie the 3.5mm headphone jack, a micro USB Port and the primary microphone. The back of the Phone is non-removable and so is the battery. There is a Samsung logo in the centre of the phone below the 16 MP camera. The dual LED flash lies next to the camera. Samsung Galaxy C5 is available in four colours – gold, silver, pink and gray.

Performance:

Samsung Galaxy C5 is powered by mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 chipset, which is downgraded from the chip used in Galaxy C7. It uses octa-core 4×1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 and 4×1.2 GHz Cortex-A53processor. More number of cores allows more efficient use of multi-tasking. Samsung Galaxy C5 has provided 4 GB of RAM in this device and easily allows heavy multi-tasking. This is the second Samsung phone with 4 GB of RAM. For gaming, it is supported by Adreno 405 GPU

Software:

Samsung Galaxy C5 runs Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 with Samsung TOUCHWIZ UI on top. The user interface is quite refined and has less bloatware. Samsung uses colour-coded folders both inside the app drawer and on the home screen. You can download new themes for the Touch Wiz from the store. This phone also supports split screen and floating app that only Galaxy Note would allow.

Camera:

Samsung Galaxy C5 comes with a 16MP rear camerawithan aperture of f/1.9. Photos are enhanced by dual tone LED, autofocus, digital zoom, face detection, High Dynamic Range (HDR), touch to focus.Ithowever lacks OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and laser focus. The camera interface is very simple and similar to all Samsung phone. It also has an additional facility of a quick launch of the camera by double pressing the home button. The Samsung Galaxy C5 is capable of recording up to 1080p @ 30fps and also supports slow motion video.Unfortunately, it doesn’t support 4K video recording. This phone has an internal memory of 32GB/64 GB which is good for storing large pictures.

On the front side, Samsung Galaxy C5 features 8MP front camera which is really good.Colours and details are sharp. It also has wide angle selfie mode and beauty mode.

Storage:

Samsung Galaxy C5 comes in two variants of an internal storage of 32GB and 64GB. The memory can be further expandable up to massive 128GB using the hybrid slot. Please note this phone has a hybrid slot which means you cannot use two SIM and microSD card simultaneously. You either have to use one SIM and card or both SIMs and no card.

Battery:

Samsung Galaxy C5 uses 2,6000mAH battery fixed inside the non-removable back cover. Samsung Galaxy C5 supports fast charging but doesn’t use USB type C port. It gives approximately 75 hours in single SIM configuration and a 73-hour in dual mode configuration.

Connectivity:

Samsung Galaxy C5 is a dual SIM(4G + 3G) Phone with hybrid SIM tray meaning you cannot use both the SIMs and micoSD altogether. You have to choose between one SIM and microSD card. The hybrid SIM Tray is located on the right side of the device below the power key.It supports Bluetooth v4.2, FM radio with RDS, NFC compatible with Samsung Pay among other usual connectivity features like Wi-Fi, etc.

Price:

Galaxy C5 price in India, to be launched in 2017, is expected to be Rs.22990.

The Verdict:

Samsung Galaxy C5 is a decent handset with an exemplary fit and finish. The battery is good, but it doesn’t compete with the bigger C7. Samsung Galaxy C5 performs well, but it is no powerhouse. It, however, still manages to outperform the A5 and the J5 launched in 2016.
