Microsoft hired the co-creator of ‘Portal’ to build games for the cloud

Microsoft has hired Kim Swift, perhaps better known as the co-creator of Portal, to supervise the collaborations of Xbox Game Studios Publishing with independent studios on games built for the cloud. SWIFT joins as senior manager of the cloud game after a Creek in Stadia, where she was director of the game design.

SWIFT was a narbacular drop producer, which was published in 2005. Valve hired the team behind this game to make a spiritual successor: Portal. SWIFT was the project project on the classic puzzle platform. She worked on the left for dead series before moving to hermetic games (Quantum Conundrum) and later Amazon and EA motif.

Google closed its internal stadium game studios in February. Many team members moved to other companies.

“Kim will build a team focused on new experiences in the cloud, which will support our mission to bring our Xbox games to connect 3 billion players to play our games,” said at the head of The head of the Xbox Edition Game Studios Pierre Wyse.

Microsoft wants to reach the large number of players who do not have, want or need games or PCs. These are streaming sticks and smart TV applications so that people can access the Xbox Cloud game via a game pass without dedicated hardware. So, it’s not surprising that Xbox works on “cloud games”, as Wyse said. However, he added that “we do not know exactly what it sounds like today, or what it even plays like”, so that these games are probably a little time.
