The iOS application of YouTube finally gets the image in the image

YouTube brings a long-awaited feature into its iPhone application: Picture-In-Picture (PIP). All premium customers will soon have access to viewers, and YouTube says it plans to activate PIP for all iOS users in the US.

“Figure-in-Picture allows users to watch YouTube videos on a small mini player while simultaneously tracing outside the YouTube application on their mobile devices,” said YouTube spokesman to Engadget. “We started launching PIP for members of YouTube premium. On iOS, and plan to launch PIP for all US iOS users too.”

Apple brings PIP to the iPhone last year as part of iOS 14. Many video streaming applications have supported features, including Netflix, Twitch, Amazon Prime Video, Disney + and Apple TV. Even though it has supported PIP on Android since 2018, YouTube has become a leading Holdout in iOS to a change of heart, which was first reported by Macrumor.

Some iOS users find a solution to watch YouTube via PIP. It sometimes works through the YouTube website and some people have accessed it through shortcuts. YouTube hasn’t revealed the timeline for the launch of PIP, but in the end the solution was no longer needed.

PIP support on the YouTube application has long been late, and is happy to see that it will not only be for premium members, at least in the US. I personally look forward to kicking back and watching a chaotic overwatch league match on a mini player when reading a reaction on Twitter.
